Most copies of the book were pulped shortly after publication due to libel action taken by local artists and other residents of St. Ives who identified themselves in the narrative. Identifiable artists include Willie Barns-Graham, Arthur Caddick, W.S Graham, Barbara Hepworth, Peter Lanyon, Bernard Leach, Denis Mitchell, Ben Nicholson, John Wells and Bryan Wynter.
